Hi Beachcomber. I honestly can't compare the White's to the Sov because I have never used a Sov. I do own an Excal and have used a 15" WOT on it and can tell you in confidence that the Dual Field does go deeper. I find,under my hunting conditions, that the Dual Field is more stable than the PI Pro.
Buy a Whites Surf Pi dual field for $450-500 from a friend of a friend (it's a 2017 model if that makes any difference) I live close to the beach and wanted to start hunting the sand more after pulling some gold the other day with my CTX. It's just a Surfmaster PI Pro, with the Pulse Delay control put back on, and a larger diam. coil. ( The Dual Field was a coil design that Eric Foster suggested to Whites when he was designing the TDI.
